It is with great pleasure that we welcome Dr. Emma Schachner to our department as our newest faculty member. Dr. Schachner is an esteemed evolutionary functional morphologist and paleontologist. Her research focuses on the evolution and structural diversity of the respiratory system, with a particular emphasis on reptiles and birds.
Recognized for her groundbreaking research, Dr. Schachner has published numerous articles on the lung biology and anatomy of reptiles and birds in prestigious scientific journals such as Nature, PNAS, and Nature Communications. Her contributions to the field have been acknowledged through various awards, including recognition for her art and imaging in science from AuntMinnie.com and the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB).
Dr. Schachner’s impactful work has also garnered attention beyond the scientific community. In 2020, she delivered a captivating talk titled “The secret weapon that let dinosaurs take over the planet,” shedding light on her groundbreaking research. In addition to excellence in research, Dr. Schachner is also an expert in pedagogy, bringing extensive teaching experience in human and veterinary anatomy. She will teach anatomy in the core DVM curriculum here at the UF College of Veterinary Medicine.
