Amygdalar Involvement in Respiratory Dysfunction

Drs. Pedro Trevizan-Baú, John A Hayes , Donald C Bolser , Leah R Reznikov  has had the research recently published.

The article summarizes roles for the amygdala, which is in control of respiration, coughing, swallowing, airway smooth muscle contraction and mucus secretion. They also emphasize the need to understand how the amygdala regulates these functions. They also go over literature that suggest that amygdala dysfunction may contribute to respiratory dysfunction.
